Air Quality / Mold Inspection
What Is Mold?
Molds belong to the fungi kingdom and can thrive in both natural and man-made environments. Minute mold particles exist in both indoor and outdoor air. In the wild, molds play a vital role in decomposing organic matter and are commonly found on soil, food, plant debris, and various surfaces.
Molds generate minuscule cells known as "spores," which are incredibly small and readily dispersed through the air. When these spores are viable, they function in a manner similar to seeds, germinating into new mold colonies when they encounter favorable conditions.
In a mold (also called air quality) inspection, the inspector collects air samples to determine the types and levels of molds present in the home. The laboratory analyzes these samples specifically for the presence of mold spores.
Mold Sampling Inspections
It may be a good idea to have a mold inspection when:
-
You see probable mold
-
There are areas that are wet
-
There was a past water event that has been corrected
-
There is a mildew smell in the home
-
You are sensitive to molds
Houston Enviro Assessments conducts comprehensive mold and air quality sampling, which includes taking air samples throughout your home and an additional control sample outside. If visible mold is detected, we may also collect tape lift samples. All samples are documented on a Chain of Custody form and sent via overnight express to an independent laboratory for testing. Typically, we receive the lab results within 24-36 hours, although it may take longer over weekends or holidays. The lab report details the types and prevalence of mold spores found, along with descriptions of associated health risks. The lab’s Mold Report and our report, which includes our findings and photos of the house, are provided to you within a few minutes of our receipt of the report from the laboratory.
